Little Lobbyists Statement: Lawmakers Must Repeal Changes to Health Care Provisions in H.R. 1
Little Lobbyists joins disability rights organizations calling for repeals of health care provisions in HR 1.
Our families, and millions across the United States, count on Medicaid. 50% of children are covered by this essential program. Medicaid pays for doctor's visits, medication, equipment, nursing, and other key benefits that keep children living at home and in their communities where they belong.
Medicaid's waiver program allows medically complex children to live their fullest and most vibrant lives in their communities with the people they love, growing to their full potential. Without Medicaid, our children will be forced into institutions — or die without critical care.
As Congress implements billions of dollars in funding cuts and states prepare to tighten their belts, we know that the programs our children rely upon will be first on the chopping block. We're fighting to protect Medicaid not just for our children, but for everyone.
Our approach is unique: Since 2017, Little Lobbyists has been bringing our medically complex children to the Hill to confront lawmakers in person with the very first kids their votes will harm or protect. Your funds go directly to bringing children and families to Congress.
We make decisionmakers look our kids in the eye before they vote.
We roll in with our kids, in their strollers and wheelchairs, toting oxygen tanks and pumps, with their little smiles and big eyes.
We make sure they see us and talk with us, hear our stories, look us in the eye and face the full impact of their votes:
Little Lobbyists is experienced and effective at changing hearts, minds, and votes.
We are a national organization with representative families from every district, and we have been doing this work since 2017. Elected officials know us by the sounds of our wheels echoing through the hallways of power.
You've read about us in The New York Times, The Washington Post, USA Today, The American Prospect, and The Atlantic. You've heard us on Marketplace. You've seen us on MSNBC and NBC.
We undertake the difficult project of bringing families from around the country to the Hill, with their disabled and medically complex children, to be advocates for themselves, and all disabled children — and, by extension, due to the way policy budgeting works, all children, period — because it works.
We don't just show up and hope for the best — we prepare for success:
And our families don't just visit their own representatives, they make the most of every visit by talking with everyone they meet — and bonding with other families of medically complex children as not just advocates, but lifelong friends.
We arrange travel for each child and their family, accessible transport and lodging, and other necessities like food, supplies. It's more difficult to travel with a disability, so we do the heavy lifting so our families can focus on the work they've come to do.
Our high-impact work was instrumental in saving the Affordable Care Act in 2017, and we'll do it again for Medicaid.
